What’s the Deal? Role Playing Board Game http://ali.unt.edu

How were Americans impacted by the Great Depression? How do you help your students realize the trials and tribulations experienced by so many during that trying time? Watch this video showing students involved in a role-playing board game called Whats the Deal?, a game created, developed and produced by ALi (Active Learning Initiative), a part of the University of North Texas Center for Learning Enhancement, Assessment and Redesign.

Playing 1 of 8 characters, students navigate the game board while being affected not only by the space upon which they land, but also by either a Fate card, which determines the fate of that particular player, or a Whats the Deal card, which has influence over all players. As students move through the game, they can keep track of which New Deal programs helped or hurt their particular character using our program tracking sheet. Some students will round the board while still in possession of hope and money.some students wont finish at all! Want to give it a shot?
